Summary

To Detective Billy Harney, the newest member of Chicago PD's elite strike force—Special Operations Section—getting shot in the head, stalked by a state's attorney, and accused of murder by his fellow cops is all part of breaking a case。

So when a drive-by shooting on the Chicago's west side turns political, he leads the way to a quick solve。 But Harney's instincts—his father was once chief of detectives and his twin sister, Patti, is also on the force—run deep。 As a population hungry for justice threatens to riot, he realizes that the three known victims are hardly the only ones。

When Harney starts asking questions about who's to blame, the easy answers prove to be the wrong ones。 On the flip side, the less he seems to know, the longer he can keep his clandestine investigation going 。 。 。 until Harney's quest to expose the evil that's rotting the city from the inside out takes him to the one place he vowed never to return: his own troubled past。

A great read。 Seemed like maybe James was back on track。

A sequel to the Black Book, Detective Billy Harney again does not disappoint。 The underlying plots move along before coming together at the end。 Loved the book as much as the first。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book is a disappointment, a real letdown after The Black Book。 I mean seriously, it’s the guy from IAB AGAIN?! Seriously?! Come on! That’s a real shame。 I have to think that any other author would’ve been told to figure out a different “who done it”, because you just did that in your last book。 Hell, even the father is the bad guy again。 The only good thing I can say about it, it’s an easy, fast read。 What a shame。

I loved this book。 One cop tries to find the truth while family keeps secrets and cops are corrupt。 I look forward to the next one in this series。 Plenty of action in this one。

Oh my gosh! I couldn't put this book down, but yet I didn't want to finish it because the intensity and adventure would be over! The Red Book is a great read by co-writers James Patterson and David Ellis。 This is the second installment of The Black Book series, and it picks up where Black Book ended。 Detective Billy Harney is back to work after being shot in the head, accused of murder, and living through his father and someone who was like an uncle to him be arrested and sentenced to prison。 Fi Oh my gosh! There's a third installment teaser at the end of this book, but I refuse to ruin the new book by reading ahead。 。。。more

Well, well, well, James Patterson has returned! The Red Book was brilliant!Albeit dangerous, with a number of key players set to kick butt!Thankfully Carla might just live with medivac on route but lets not jump ahead, shall we。。。First, the manner in which this was set up was shocking。 These young girls, sex slaves, prostitutes, child trafficking and the like was enough to make me sick。What kind of person does this?Who would think of suicide by train?Who would blow up a building with a young girl Well, well, well, James Patterson has returned! The Red Book was brilliant!Albeit dangerous, with a number of key players set to kick butt!Thankfully Carla might just live with medivac on route but lets not jump ahead, shall we。。。First, the manner in which this was set up was shocking。 These young girls, sex slaves, prostitutes, child trafficking and the like was enough to make me sick。What kind of person does this?Who would think of suicide by train?Who would blow up a building with a young girl named Bridget inside?Or, the better question what sick person would do any of the above?I wish I could dish out more spoilers but you'll have to read this second in the series of Black Book yourselves。What I can say is the ending was most certainly a cliff hanger and we can only pray Carla lives to tell about it。Thank you to Osterhout Free Library for another Curbside Pickup Marathon Reads。 。。。more

Wow! this book has so many twists and curves! This was a very hard book to put down。 So, happy their is another book in this series coming out later。 What would be good is if Alex Cross and Detective Billy Harney could get together and work a case together。 Enjoy!

Not a very good one。 In fact a pretty bad one。 A cheap rewrite of NYPD Red。 It was boring from the first sentence I read。 I didn't read beyond the first chapter。 Not a very good one。 In fact a pretty bad one。 A cheap rewrite of NYPD Red。 It was boring from the first sentence I read。 I didn't read beyond the first chapter。 。。。more

Sometimes we don't know who the good or bad guys are until its too late。 This we see in many forms in this book。 From the eyes of a trafficked girl told lies to get her from another country, from everyday people and other cops finding out someone was crooked and in on illegal things to the point of running them, and from the things our own friends and family members omit telling us to try to save us。 All these and more led to a good forward moving book full of secrets that once out changed many Sometimes we don't know who the good or bad guys are until its too late。 This we see in many forms in this book。 From the eyes of a trafficked girl told lies to get her from another country, from everyday people and other cops finding out someone was crooked and in on illegal things to the point of running them, and from the things our own friends and family members omit telling us to try to save us。 All these and more led to a good forward moving book full of secrets that once out changed many lives。 Whatever color the book is be sure you really want to open it。 Are you ready for what you'll find? ThreeFor lying about the number of pages again。 Good story by Ellis。 Maybe if Jim added something other than his name, we could get a lengthy novel worthy of the cost。

I could not put this book down。 I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Billy and Patti and the cast of the first story。 This is going to be an enjoyable series to read if they keep it going at this pace。 (I read the sneak peak of the third book and I'm already interested)。I enjoy Billy and his comedy act in between the stress events -- he is a terrific character。 It's so interesting to read a James Patterson novel that is really well put together after reading several that are not。This story of the I could not put this book down。 I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Billy and Patti and the cast of the first story。 This is going to be an enjoyable series to read if they keep it going at this pace。 (I read the sneak peak of the third book and I'm already interested)。I enjoy Billy and his comedy act in between the stress events -- he is a terrific character。 It's so interesting to read a James Patterson novel that is really well put together after reading several that are not。This story of the apparent gang murder that turns into a human trafficking case that relates back to things that happened in the first novel of the series, just really well done。 A day well spent for me。 。。。more
